1. Warren Hastings
Warren Hastings was born on Dec. 6, 1732, in Churchill, near Daylesford, in a poor family. He was the first Governor-General of Bengal from 1773 to 1785. He was accused of corruption and impeached in 1787, but after a long trial he was acquitted in 1795. He was made a Privy Counsellor in 1814.He died on 22 August 1818.
2. Sir John Macpherson
Sir John Macpherson was born on 1745. He was the acting Governor-General of India from 1785 to 1786. He was died on 12 January 1821. In March 1767 he sailed for India, nominally as purser of an East India ship.
3. The Earl Cornwallis
Earl Cornwallis was born on December 31, 1738 in London. Having been educated at Eton and Clare College, Cambridge, he entered the army. For some time he was a member of parliament for in 1761. He served a campaign in Germany, He was appointed in February 1786 to serve as both Commander-in-Chief of British India and Governor of the Presidency of Fort William, also known as the Bengal Presidency. Lord Charles Cornwallis was a British army officer, civil administrator, and diplomat. He died on 5 October 1805.
4. Sir John Shore
Sir John Shore was born on 1751, he was the chief revenue adviser during the reign of Warren Hastings, became the Governor General of India during 1793-1797. After coming in India in 1768, Sir John Shore was appointed as a novice in the English East India Company. He also worked in the Secret Political Department of the company. Shore was the first president of the British and Foreign Bible Society. He died on 14 February 1834.
5. Sir Alured Clarke
Sir Alured Clarke was born on 24 November 1744. He was a British army officer. He took charge of all British troops in Georgia. He went on to be Governor of Jamaica and then lieutenant-governor of Lower Canada in which he had responsibility for implementing the Constitutional Act 1791. He was then sent to India where he became Commander-in-Chief of the Madras Army, then Governor-General of India from 18 March 1798 to 18 May 1798 and finally Commander-in-Chief of India during the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War. He was died 1832.
